They’re separate agricultural practices—egg production and chicken farming but it’s really only a matter of time now.

Thank you for bridging me. I feel agricultural farming puts not only our ecosystems at risk of pathogen outbursts but also increases our carbon footprint significantly.
Recent studies show the total impact of animal farms exceed automobile operation w.r.t. carbon footprint :(

Egg-laying chickens take a lot longer to mature compared to chickens raised for meat. So when you have to cull whole farms of chickens, it takes more time and resources to grow back the egg-laying chickens.

Chickens raised for meat can be ready for slaughter in as little as 6 weeks. Egg-laying chickens take more like 6 months to mature.

A lot of the bird flu transmission is coming from wild birds, and the farms raising meat chickens are generally located further away from major bird migratory paths. So the farms raising egg-laying chickens have more exposure to bird flu transmission.

You are right here but we are risking ourselves due to animal farms where animals are packed in close quarters. Many of the virus(es) have hosts who don't get infected but once it jumps ship, it is a mathematical problem..
