Come on, be serious. Landlords are the definition of rent-seeking middlemen– that's why they charge rent– they don't supply housing, they hoard it and restrict access to it in order to extract profit.
Yes I agree on that point! Former and latter re: devs vs landlords. I do disagree with your notion that RE devs somehow don’t increase supply? They clearly do.
Developer interests sometimes lead them to create housing, like insurers sometimes provide healthcare, but often restrict it or let land lie dormant to maximize the profit they can extract. If we want to create housing, we should do it directly rather than hoping somebody does it to make a buck.
