Honeybees also do something we call the "waggle dance" to convey to the other workers where to find resources. Here is a video of my bees, where you can clearly see a "dancer!"
Also, peep the couple of very large honey bees on the right side of the screen.. those are drones (boy bees). They make a lot of noise, but they can't hurt you at all (no ovipositor) and only serve one purpose 😂
I learn so much from you. You have made me less freaked out by bugs, and that is being passed to my children. Thank you for being here, doing what you do, with all that you know.
No, they have a single stomach, the crop. This leads to the large intestine (via a valve) and from there to the small intestine (via another valve) and then to the rectum.
The crop in birds function differently than it does in bees. There is a unique valve between the crop and the ventriculus (midgut), called the ‘proventriculus basically allows food to go straight to the stomach so it doesn’t contaminate the nectar.
one stomach for eating and the other is for storing nectar. I can also point you to multiple entomology textbooks that reference this fact if you would like.
Pollen is collected from the nectar in the crop by the proventriculus and passed into the ventriculus (large intestine, not stomach), and on to the ileum, the small intestine, through the pylorus. Many American popular books refer to the ventriculus as a stomach, but it's a typical intestine.
I think we’re arguing about semantics. But because they have a way for food to bypass the honey stomach it is considered both a crop and a stomach because it has some unique characteristics
I think we are basically in agreement. The crop does start breakdown of sugar, from salivary enzymes, but that's a very limited stomach function. The ventriculus uses peristalsis, so not a stomach. I suspect "2 stomachs" idea is because the idea of bee vomit isn't pleasant.
Very interesting. Thank you for the fun fact. Did you know no two cats have the same nose? Each nose is unique to the individual cat, just like a fingerprint.

Biblically accurate bees.
…
I’ll see myself out.
Man… what I could do with two stomachs.
