i feel like actually learning how to move forward/back by words and lines will actually get me the kind of speed benefits that people talk about, right now it just feels clunky
I totally understand what you mean. On one hand it's muscle memory, but on the other you have to formally hack your brain to see the pattern of using, say, w (or 10w for 10 words) for it to feel natural.
It took me several years to grow comfortable with it, but it's very worthwhile.
yeah, it's gonna take both remembering the actual commands and learning to see for it to stick, fortunately my main text editor (obsidian) has vim input support so it should just be a matter of practice
It also start to make more sense once you add commands to the mix. "10w" by itself may feel like too much thinking for little move gain, "c10w" (change the next ten words) will make you feel like a magician.
