I really need to watch this but I want to be able to give it the time it deserves and not watch it while I'm staving off being asleep. This is one of my biggest blindspots I desperately want to close up for recent movies. I just hear raves from everyone.
I really liked this movie, especially that scene with her mother near the end, that one line from her broke my fucking heart. Cannot wait to rewatch with my girlfriend.
Statistically speaking, there has to be a trans woman whose egg-crack moment was watching the annoying civilian in the opening scene go “Oh, no, it’s boiling acid!” and realizing she would do anything to avoid turning into him
It was so amazing! As a lifelong comic fan I could see the love of the art form and as a trans woman from a small rural town, I could relate all too deeply to the character's journey. Great performances all around.
Yesssss I love this chaotic af movie. Loved the comic book aesthetics and silly gags/one-liner bits and deeper metaphors about transition and also for it's honest take about how we idealize t4t but sometimes t4t is the fucking worst
Comments
the aesthetics are already top notch.
“jokerfied monogamy”
“do you swear to be a good little clown boy”
They don't necessarily *mean* anything to all of us all the time, but they sure as hell *say* something.
my parents put me on lamictal when i was 13. i have neither bipolar disorder nor epilepsy. i only got off of it 2 years ago.
The People's Joker, on the other hand, hit me where I live and spoke to me on a level I didn't think possible from film. I got so weepy at the ending.
..kinda fucked me up by hitting way to close to home tho 😅
