It’s crazy how many game development stories are “we spent 6 years developing it but we scrapped it and made completely different game in 1 year to publish”

The theory that they keep testing the gameplay, and people don't like it, so then they have to modify the kit, but that makes it so they need to redesign the entire map to make the puzzles work, makes a lot of sense to me.

Kinda bizarre, right? I've started it a few times and lose interest.

I'm not sure how much of it is just my inner contrarian chafing at liking the thing I'm expected to like.

The first half of Season 1 is actually kinda bad. The dialogue is very geared to kids. The episodes often end in an explicit lesson. It sets up some important world building, but the show doesn't really find it's legs until Season 2.

Also I've absorbed so much of it via cultural osmosis that I'm not sure how invested I could get in all the character and story arcs I already know.

We're actually at the point it's been longer since I've played Hollow Knight than it was for me to wait "forever" to finally play it, dislike it the first time, put it down for a year, then try it again and like it that time.
