Second, even worse than defeatism is a call to political violence against MAGA and Trumpists. Any violence against the government or its supporters will be used to justify violence against its opponents, and will speed the way to authoritarian crackdown.

Also need to keep in mind that abstinence from violence on our part is no protection from MAGA using violence (whether a false flag action on their part or a direct attack on their part on their opposition or a targeted population) to justify more violence on their part, both state and vigilante.

This point raises a question that has been rattling around in my head: what does hypothetical president pritzker do with kash patel in 2029? Firing the FBI director on day 1 seems bad. So, what does that mean? Let me be clear, the goal must be to preserve the constitutional order and rule of law. There are other harmful but legal things that the Trump administration is doing, but those are secondary. The goal must be first to preserve democracy, only then can we hope to reform it

I will add this thread from a few months ago. I was rereading it earlier while feeling overwhelmed. I am so sad for our kids. From the littles who pick up on the uncertainty we feel to the young adults trying to navigate career choices in all the chaos.
