For sure, it's totally natural to feel like people are getting what they deserve, but I think the progressive response is that no one actually deserves to suffer, and that's the difference that makes the difference. I totally agree. (Though when I see a video like this, I want to ask, “Then what made you vote for Trump?” It could be a reason that would prevent them from voting for any progressive.)

Yes of course. Though there too, as much as I really don't like it, I think the commitment to dialogue is still important (though not indefinitely or without any conditions), trying to help someone see why certain attitudes aren't in their own interests let alone others'.

Yes, no party can be above the "here's what's in it for you" pitch, but I don't think the Democrats can succeed without making an argument for government and the common good. "Trump is bad for YOU" is a recipe for a possible win in '28, then a loss in '32 when the GOP promises the moon again.

Definitely agree that's the ultimately more sustainable and necessary framing. But organizing advice generally is that you want to find the Venn Diagram moment of a shared interest and expand the view from there. I find it works better than starting from empathy or logic at least (sadly!).
