I learned that The Sorrows of Young Werther (Goethe, 1774) gave rise to a parody novel ("Die Freuden des jungen Werthers") where young Werther doesn't commit suicide but lives happily ever after with his Lotte.
Goethe was so furious he kept on attacking the author, I thought omg just let it be.
