The math on idea of a DMZ doesn't work because the only way it can is if you put 100k EU/UK forces as the tripwire against future RU aggression. Very expensive and deploying 100k would commit a huge amount of NATO into thus role. Plus RU must be punished for this not rewarded. China is watching.

I argue that putin would take land for peace as a win.
He will have traded 1m unwanted east russian men for 1m east ukrainian women (children, land and resources).
Even now he trumpets decreased unemployment rates... well, no sh#t.

YES - I am hopeful that the Secretary General of NATO gets it. He certainly has the background to get the big picture and the gravitas to confront Russia and China. Perhaps one of Biden’s major accomplishments is reenergizing NATO.

Successful resolution requires addressing the ideological & geopolitical motivations driving Putin, not just the immediate conflict. Otherwise even if a temporary truce is reached the cycle of aggression will continue. The stakes are far bigger than Ukraine, they involve the global balance of power.
