It took me a little to get into the rhythm of it, but once I unlocked the shotgun variant javelin which does some considerable knockback, moving enemies around and knocking them into traps opens up some fun tactics. It can be extremely satisfying.

Another aspect I really like is the artstyle, it's again very Hades inspired, but the game has this techno-medieval style, and look at this...

All the icons for the relics are medieval manuscript illuminations. That's genius! Compliments to the chef, because the artists were cooking with that idea.

Also, the music? That slaps too, and I wish there was more of it. This is what greets you on the game's title screen, and it is a hell of a bop. The combat and boss music is real nice too.

Now, I said I have some caveats, the game honestly has some serious shortcomings. I think it really suffers in the character writing and story, we're dropped into the action with very little motivation other than defeat the queen, which y'know, down with monarchy and all but I do wish we had more.

In fact, "I wish we had more" is gonna be my biggest overarching criticism of the game.

One of the most disappointing aspects is that as we progress, our base camp doesn't really change at all, there's very little in the way of NPCs to talk to, which would've been nice to flesh out the story.

I have to wonder how much was left on the cutting room floor, because it kinda feels like it shouldn't be this empty. Like, we have a little friendly crab-bell thingie that we can pet, and it feels like this should've been found out on a run and brought back to camp, but it was there from the start.

Given that Studio Fizbin announced they were being shut down before the game even came out, I'm assuming they had to do a lot of scoping to even get the game out at all. Real shame.
