Parrying is infinitely better when it rewards you for successfully carrying it out I.e. in 9 Sols stopping enemies dead in their tracks. But parrying for the sake solely not to take damage makes fights a chore and a slog. Also when you’re as terrible at timing as I am, god it can get old fast lol

I suck so hard at getting the timing right on parry systems. I usually prefer dodging. But DAMN if parrying some gigantic attack doesn't make you feel godly. 😆

I find parries acceptable when they are a core mechanic of a game (Sekiro, etc.) as opposed to a gameplay option that just outclasses all other gameplay options (Dark Souls).

Nine Sols has been so lovely to play, and so painfully punishing too, currently stuck on the "parry for years or die" boss but at least im starting to reliably get to what I hope is their final phase and looking forward to what the rest of the game's bosses have to offer!

I really hope devs are paying attention to Nine Sols' and Another Crab's Treasure's implementations; because variable attack patterns are always trying to trick you into parrying early, it's important to put the fallback "block" behavior in front of that window.
It makes learning much more forgiving
