I actually like the nickname, just like I like the “pigeons” for NYCFC. If these teams were so obsessed with “global branding” that they didn’t want more or less traditional “Miami Yadda-Yaddas” for their official name/branding, I’m glad they have a somewhat decent nickname.

I think that’s a valid criticism. In all fairness though, what’re you supposed to do when launching a brand in today’s day and age? These guys didn’t exist 10 years ago. They could have done a fan vote I guess, but what else were they going to name (nickname-wise) them with that crest?

Just call yourself the name and let the supporters come up with a name. “5 stripes” with ATL didn’t feel forced because it came out of the fan culture, for example

Or name yourself a nickname, like Sounders. That’s fine too. But trying to have it both ways with a top down informal nickname seems lame to me. Just my opinion!
