Is this what's happening? I have only heard the opposite -- that juniors can't get hired, people only want to give jobs to super experienced seniors. 🤔

At mid to big tech juniors are still being hired, though less in US cities. At least where I work there's a durable intern to junior pipeline which is critical for hiring large teams of enthusiastic kids with poor work/life boundaries
I can speak to the experience on my team among others: a limited sample size (n=5ish), but a couple moved to another country which was in-person all the time and they did noticeably better.
Amazon specifically (can’t speak for others) is doing this from what I’ve heard. Like 30% of the workforce at this point is early career H1B visas who are now trapped in a predatory environment and can’t leave because they’ll risk deportations
