I haven’t seen or read dune (except for the Lynch version as a child, I don’t remember much) but my mom loved it and told me about it like a bedtime story
One of the driving forces in the world in dune is an intergalactic group of nuns called the Bene Gesserit with trained psychic abilities who spend centuries cultivating religious ideologies and prophecies so they can control the development of worlds and easily bend whole cultures to their agenda
Ish they’re much more passive in the way they push their agenda while actively accepted and integrated into society. It’s assumed that pretty much every socialization has bene gesserit in very select high positions of power performing ceremonial work, counseling governing bodies, aiding intel, etc.
