i generally agree except that there’s a part in It where they make a big thing about Richie being methodist then later on make a big thing about Richie being catholic. so idk how much the editors really did with that one

You see this with some good writers, but usually weak writers if they get 'big' enough to push back on editing.
Stephen King is an example of a good author who benefits greatly (imho) from good editors.
JKR isn't a good writer. IMHO.
