Seriously, was there no way NATO could have secured these weapons and ammunition and given the new government the choice of selling them to Ukraine, or having them destroyed in situ ? Where's the downside in that negotiation ?

The UN has a specialized team dedicated for chemical weapons and WMDs and THS reached out to them right around the time they took out Homs. Israel and US are destroying as much as possible to leave Syria w zero defense. The whole WMD narrative is a repeat of Iraq. A weak ME for a strong Israel.
