That’s a lovely offer. I got my AHT post whilst I was pregnant and only did the job for a couple of months before I went off. I went back when he was six months old and you’re right that it can feel like a lonely place.

👏👏👏 It's quite a moment, isn't it? My return was easier because of shared parental leave. Husband started his as I went back, so at least I could stagger the emotional challenge and get used to days without my son before adding childcare into the mix. Still not sure everyone knows about SPL!

This is nice - I went back from mat leave a year ago on 4 days, then took on an AHT secondment from January and went up to 5 days. Now going back as a T&L Deputy on 4 days again and looking forward to a different balance!

I returned too when my son was 5 months old and then when my daughter was 9 months. Probably too early on both occasions.

I had a similar experience, Claire. Got my AHT role while on a brief parttime-return from maternity so when I returned fulltime, it was fullon! Even though my 6month old daughter was only at the nursery across the road it was still a big wrench. What a lovely offer. 💝

Although many years since I made this transition I’m reading Matresence by Lucy Jones, and have found it mind blowing and would recommend to every mother (at whatever stage of mothering). It was recommended by a colleague I am supporting returning to work after mat leave.
