A mentality I had to grow out of in my early 20s, but “Debate me bro!” types have tricked the entire internet into thinking it’s “your job” to look at a screen and force yourself to be mad. That’s what Twitter is now.
That is not normal. You use to go online to improve your mood by feeding a Neopet

“Bluesky is an echo chamber”
Yes of course it is, I tailored it to my taste, interests, opinions, and community. I’m here to have a good time, not argue with strangers lmao

now everywhere is Usenet with lockin.
Debate is fine, but so many just use it as a means of lording their own self righteousness over others. Fuck off dork
Just follow who you WANT to follow, & block random mad intruders - problem solved!
Insteand he wants to proceed to a mental duel of intellectual gigants, aka just annoy me...
I've never been sure why people say outlandish things with their name attached to it (or at least easy to be linked to your real name) for all humanity to see.
Especially since most people doing it are insufferable too.
Just because I also disagree with the one being dunked on doesn't change that.
Now we're dumped into these global social media sites with an infinite supply of sea lions
It didn't used to be like this
I don’t immediate get into the trenches of the Battle of Ideas.
I go online to to smile at my friends posting vacation pictures, download that incorrectly titled ‘System of a Down-Zelda song’, play Trackmania, and cum.
Also crack downloading Undertale and doing my own pacifist run. Asgore opened me up to bi-sexuality, and I won’t explain how!
ABCYA was my website of choice for computer games.
Regardless, a lot of websites seemed to have realized making people upset is an easy way to boost engagement.
It's not about 'accepting others views', these sites feed on drama
Because all nuance goes out the window and questioning disinformation at all is met with vitriol and tribalism.
No one is right 100% of the time, but it'll feel that way if you exist in an echo chamber.
And you lose touch with reality.
And I don't think that's healthy.
I dunno how to solve this tho.
But I think it's worth for ppl to remember that the internet isn't an accurate reflection of irl.
Dialing this back, I was arguing against social media flooding your feed with stuff algorithmically tailored to evoke conflict
Because ppl still choose to circulate things that upset them that '' the others '' said to '' dunk '' on it among friends.
I think ppl just love drama and conflict, they find it exciting and it's a rush.
Sometimes it's manipulated, but ppl are still the ones choosing to take the bait.
And even without it ppl still yearn for it and go out of their way to find and circulate what makes them upset.
In modern day, a grown ass man sited, "the tv" as his source and no one batted an eye
“If I wanted to argue politics with someone, I’d do it in real life where we’re both at risk of a swift kick to the groin.”
“You have an absolute right to not participate in any discussion you deem unworthy.”
I use that rule here now.
("Him" is my Zafara from back when the Internet knew me primarily as Ronnie the Meepit queen)
*Looks up soup recipes instead*
Anyone who thinks it's an echo chamber can look up posts leading up to the election about whether or not voting for Harris enables genocide.
Saw it in my own posts, but it remained civil and ppl blocked as needed.
2. I’m 37
And my Neopets acct is 2nd yr. There was always a subset of ppl that never fed their pets!
The site still exists, and has an active team making content.
I co-founded the largest MSN group for Cartoon Orbit and Neopets back in the day.
Forcing the death of Flash really screwed Neopets over on being fun. I miss earning trophies.
No one is entitled to your time and attention.
