Believe it or not, 4chan was once popular and visited by people all across the (political) spectrum, and being the place where people made memes and were on top of trends, it was VERY useful to them to see what should get Nendoroid’ed.

/pol/ drove most of the traffic so cutting it would cut most of the costs given the overlap of /pol/ users and anime fans is probably quite low?

My logic is that for it to return to social normal instead of site normal (two very different things), you'd need to overcome three major problems created by the site's fundamental structure and the reason why quarantine structures *don't work*:

Essentially what you actually need is pre-2010's moderation formats, with wordlists which out bad actors (stormfront, kf, etc) or make it impossible to talk about unwanted topics without becoming other topics of high interest which lead to segways while declaring explicit stance

It was exaggerated/incorrect that they were the main investor/owner (at least according to their own PR statement), but data is currency, and having access to what people were hyped and talking about before they were mainstream did successful help them figure out what properties would sell figures.
