I’ve strived to be like my father, but he helped to build a newly independent country’s educational system ground up, I’m small fry compared to that. Ma'am, if I gift you a pen, you can see it, touch it, appreciate it. Similarly, the blessings we send the dead people (like, the Quran recitations, charitable donations etc.) - they can see/feel these as tangible, weighable objects.

Thank you. I’ll take that as a compliment (i was often told i was not attractive back home by random people since I’m dark skinned & have rounded features like him). My goal was to be the smartest & educated person in the room like my dad, less worried about looks (my goal since a little girl lol)

Thank you. It is strange how colorism works in a culture where our people go from the palest to the darkest, with features that are entirely global since we’re an ancient trading route & sea port. But colonization taught people to value light as beautiful, then perpetuated by media/hollywood. Sigh.
