We’re living with my daughter, so not taking up housing & more than happy to share the duties looking after our young grand children, but not sure there is a need for our visa application to take 30 yrs
In my experience, which was a painful 6 year wait for my partner’s visa, the 30 year wait would be for non-white applicants. Relatives with white partners from UK and Scandinavia waited a few months for their visas.
They mention that cost to the Aussie tax payer is one reason the appetite to resolve this issue is low. I've never understood why this need be the case for UK migrants. The UK has universal healthcare and national pension. What Aus needs is an arrangement to use that money with Aus providers.
Essentially then an old age migration from the UK would bring monies to Australia from UK financial provisions intended to sustain the the migrants here, just transferred. Essentially, increased Aussie cash flow.
