100% tarrif on Teslas starting today! Come on @albomp.bsky.social! Hit the US President were it hurts! We know President Musk's house of cards personal financial situation is fully built on the unreal stock price of Tesla cars! Hit him where it hurts! Plus he's a Nazi!
It will all go away if Australia agrees to becoming the 52nd state! (Offer valid for a limited time only and conditional on Australia replacing Aussie rules football with American rules football and cricket with baseball)
Question: if everyone is having a tarrif paid by the USA then nothing has changed outside of the US. It seems that the only losers are Americans. Yes or no?
Thank you. If Americans can’t afford to purchase products, then would that result in an increase in cost of living for Americans, which has the potential to spiral out of control as unemployment increases and there is no safety net?
It's already showing up in the US numbers. Uncertainty, tariffs & Musks actions (fear for your job), seems to have curtailed spending. US airlines are reporting a swift change in travel bookings, retails are saying spending has slowed. And the tariffs haven't impacted yet.
Mostly. The USA can't make enough steel and Al domestically, it has to import. About 20% steel and 50% Al.
Either Americans cut alot of manufacturing jobs or pay more for stuff.
Either way there will be a big surge in new markets for exporters, probably around developing countries.
Australia had similar issues with Chinese tariffs, we had a short term downturn, then a good recovery with new markets.
Time to rethink our alliances. U.S. is proving to be an unreliable and even dangerous partner. We need to build stronger security ties within our own region and move beyond AUKUS. Australia must stand on its own feet and prioritise its own interests.
Canada and the US are in a real trade war now. Remember we in Canada trade almost 1 trillion every year. This is not a person of reason. You must be aware that no matter what relationship you think you have, that does not matter. If he is doing this to us what chance do others have.
I agree, but they won't. They will argue that long term partnerships involved and the cost of withdrawing will be too high for tax payers to be subjected to. . I suspect the Australian people will have other views though? We should be like Canada
Long term partnership seems to involve little more than supplying women and men of the ADF for wars. We should strike out into Asia given our geographical position and diversity.
Trade, cultural links with Asia. Why does everything have to revolve around war? China is not an enemy. It's only perceived as such because of media and political short sightedness.
Australia is built on a huge amount of ancient, Precambrian rock. In particular, it is the world's largest producer of lithium, required for batteries.
I expect Australians now to demand their government bans all export of lithium and other rare earth minerals to the USA in retaliation
I guess we'll have to leave that one to the Aussies who may know their politicians better - I'm a Brit.
But I don't see any point in negotiating with the Fanta Fuhrer at all. He'll just ignore what he agreed to and come back to demand more anyway. We see that with Canada.
Sorry Gina, I know you’re front row at Mar-a-Lago at every opportunity but you & your bald badger Peter Dutton can go throw a shrimp on the Barbie as far as I’m concerned!
Don’t expect Albo to retaliate, hasn’t got it in him.
Time to Cancel AUKUS,go back to the French Version.
I think we should just totally ban anything made in America, full stop.
Kick their War Mongering Marines out of the NT & ensure that we are not Americas Launch Pad for a War with China.
Fk the US😡
I always knew we would be between a rock and a hard place. We need them because we cannot defend ourselves against China. That’s said, we’d have better relations with China if it wasn’t for them. Maybe we should try that tact. We cannot trust the USA or China but at least China is reasonable

Or will it be supine and obsequious, like... well, like us?

You don't want to see Aussie lithium in a Wankpanzer, do you?
Now looks like our iron and aluminium will be cheaper than Canada’s too
