What I find most frustrating is that just a relatively small increase in government spending on nature could make a huge difference, but it’s treated as a luxury.
Even just planting a few native plants and leaving a small pile of leaves in the corner of a normal city yard makes a measurable difference. It's pretty amazing. #nativeplants
And then we make the earth a carbon & water sponge. We can do it!! Just like there are municipal means of doing roads & other utilities, we need this for the natural life with which we can live in much more harmony 💖
Yeah, how many people think we have a niche hobby? It's like, don't you need to drink, eat and breathe? Not actually that niche. Like when they say 'here's an article for those of you interested in environmental matters...' ???🤔
However, our climate is changing more rapidly than conservation can respond too… and the fact that there isn’t a new normal but a permanently changing “normal” makes long-term planning and adapting very problematic.
Very true - and conservationists have a lot of adapting to do to this new reality! The very idea of 'conserving' needs reexamining in a time of rapid change, we need to start looking forwards rather than backwards in time
