Shelvy Young-Abrams led the UFT Paraprofessionals Chapter from 2006 until her retirement in 2022. Her union service began in 1969 when, as a classroom paraprofessional and single mother, she became involved in the organizing campaign that brought paraprofessionals into the UFT. #BlackHistoryMonth
