Ukraine already surrendered and demilitarized in exchange for security assurances from the US, as stated in the Budapest Memorandum. Since 2014, the U.S. has not provided these assurances in an effective and appropriate way, not fulfilling the "deal". Maybe the U.S. should start talking about that.
