Every time I drive by it on Smithfield St. here in my hometown of Pittsburgh, I think of its impact.

On June 19, 1905, 450 people attended the opening of the nickelodeon in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania by impresario/showman Harry Davis. While not nation's first theater for moving pictures, its success made it birthplace of the movie theater as a place for mass entertainment.
