The original idea was that we wouldn't have to listen to dead dudes from two centuries ago. Our Constitution is meant to be rewritten and amended very, very often. We don't do that, so, here we are. Laws that protect wealthy white men.
That was an unconstitutional act and despite the whites only part surviving to 1944 and 6 or so superceeding acts, it didn't survive the Supreme Court. We still never managed to write down anything about race and religion requirements in the constitution. Which is surprising actually.
