I got this gallon bag of teeny (100-120 yard) Molnlycke(?), Belding, Dragon, & Coats & Clark polyester, cotton, & silk spools for around $5.
These range from before 2000, most mid-1970s, some much earlier.
They weren't cheap then.

Does old thread break down or appreciably lose strength over time?
I have thread that is well over fifty years old that seems ok. I wonder if it is still worth using.
A full-skirted A-line dress could take 200 yards of thread.
A square-dance skirt with trim? 400+ yards.
If the thread is old = it'll probably break. It may not be good for sewing.
