This would then also affect AMAB folks who changed their name when they get married. As happened with my parents (hyphenated last name) and as happened with my wife and me (we took half the hyphenated name and added hers to it).

And imagine living in a rural area, having to drive to a city to get a passport. If your life was ever a grind, you know how hard it is to simply hit the DMV, and it can be worse if you have kids. This is a lot of overhead when state protections already exist. /4
