Comments
Even if Alberta managed to 'leave', Canada still owes treaty obligations to Indigenous Peoples. A new Alberta nation cannot inherit or override those responsibilities. /2

Indigenous nations have inherent self-determination rights. Many have said they do NOT consent to Alberta #secession. They are NOT bound to follow Alberta out of Canada. /3

Most of Alberta lies within Treaties 6, 7 & 8.
These treaties recognize 'shared' use of land, NOT Provincial ownership. #Secession would spark massive legal disputes over land and sovereignty. /4

The UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) requires free, prior and informed consent before major political changes. Alberta cannot bypass internationally recognized Indigenous rights. /5
