Finally finished 100 Years of Solitude after countless aborted attempts. Still didn't know who was who, even with a family tree at the front of the book.

I can’t remember whether I finished it, which says it all - I’ll have to check for a tell tale bookmark!
Generally, I don’t like books where I can feel the writer’s constant presence & this might have been one.
I enjoyed Chronicle of a Death Foretold though.
I know for a fact that I finished it as I ticked it off on "Goodreads" , but am not sure I could tell you much more about the last few pages as any of the proceeding 400 or whatever it is!
I don't mind magical realism generally, it was more the unrelenting "omniscient narrator" writing style that I found really tiring along with the confusing timeline and the fact that so many characters have the same name!

I’ll never know whether I finished it or not - think I had Covid at the time, which might have added a bit of home grown magic realism.
Love in the time of Cholera made a more lasting impact on me, though.
