People joking about canceling USAID contracts for condoms and circumcisions should remember: HIV has killed nearly 40 million people worldwide. If the U.S. stops helping countries where it's most prevalent, don't think it won't come back to haunt us

@rehmansiddiq.com your comments are spot on. AND as people with HIV start rationing or sharing antiviral meds, it allows the virus more chance to mutate and develop drug resistance. That drug resistant virus will come to US and reverse decades of progress that ended the death sentence of HIV.
The shortsightedness and stupidity of the Trump administration is astounding, but given that they enjoy watching people suffer it makes sense. Cruelty really is the goal.
There aren’t. This isn’t a philanthropy outlet. These kinds of things are at a scale that only governments in the world can do something. The US pulling out USAID, dear god hoping for another country to commit billions to it. For everyone’s’ sake.
While HIV is what made this catch my eye… Tuberculosis is perhaps a MUCH more consequential disease to not fund overseas. People aren’t getting their meds. TB is extremely contagious if active. Treatment is near minimum 3 months and often 9+. It destroys your lungs and does not discriminate like HIV
That’s not to speak of how a lot of those people losing meds MID TREAMTMENT! TB already has a history of evolving resistance to antibiotics. We are literally asking for one that’s tough as shit to cure, if even that is possible.
Agreed! Men who live in economically stable countries get so touchy about this. Circumcising is an important part of health care in many circumstances.
