A country can only change how itself calls it. Many geological regions are called different names in different languages, or even in the same language in different countries. And that is completly fine.

Like, you call it the mediterranean sea, we call it the white sea, our neighbours call it the middle sea or western sea. Some call the Arabian sea the Persian sea, the Oman sea (we again, we always have different names...) or the green sea. It just is not important.
