First, let's talk gear. The quality of riot gear varies alot, but have some common features: It's primarily designed to protect against cuts and light to medium blunt trauma. There are a few general weaknesses that can be exploited. 2/

Firstly, the primary sense of any riot officer is his eyes, which usually is protected by a visor. The visor can be easily disabled by throwing paint or a similar, hard-to-remove substance at him. With the visor gone, the officer is much more vulnerable overall. 3/

With the eyes and face exposed, an officer can be further affected by smoke, gas, dust, water, light and of course trauma to the face. The face is generally one of the (if not the) weakest point on any human. And most helmets don't protect the face particularly well if the visor's gone. 4/

Secondly, the riot suit. The suit is usually designed to be used in a shield wall, which means the shins, feet, arms and shoulders are fairly heavily protected. The back is usually only lightly protected, if at all. Keep this in mind if fighting hand to hand with riot officers. 5/

Don't hit the hard parts (the suit/"armour"). Hit either the stomach, the back or the head. Even with a helmet on, blunt force to the head will cause pain and dizziness, especially with heavy and/or repeated blows. Speaking of which, let's touch on some tactics. 6/

A key anti-riot tactic is to split crowds and target individuals, either for shock (i.e. terror) effect or to remove leaders and key personell. This tactic can be countered and reversed. Stay together, no matter what, don't let the police get you on the run or split a crowd into smaller parties. 7/
