Inside the tomb, the remains of at least 25 individuals were found, 18 of which were analysed within this study. The remains of a singular dog were also found, but radiocarbon dating reveals that this dog was buried thousands of years later, in the medieval period! 2/6

To reconstruct lives, we used multiple sampling techniques & isotope proxies. Incremental dentine was used to reconstruct breastfeeding strategies & dietary histories into early adulthood. These were complemented by bone collagen sampling, creating a dietary life history 3/6

Provenance and childhood mobility histories were reconstructed using δ13C, δ18O, 87Sr/86Sr, δ88Sr, and [Sr] values from dental enamel of successionally forming molars. The results indicate that all but one individual likely grew up local to the site. 4/6

Incremental dentine analysis reveals that this one individual was breastfed for longer than the other individuals, and also had a different childhood diet. This indicated they likely joined the group later in life. 5/6

When compared to contemporaneous groups in the region, our high-resolution life histories reveal another distinct socio-economic group in the region, adding further to the regional social complexity during this period. 6/6
