Ohio State University football players are not only stars on the gridiron, some are also Christian evangelists who have baptized teammates and fellow students.

There is a very interesting pipeline from the first religious stained glass art to modern comic books. The way our minds use narratives to understand the world, and the way stories evolve over time, is all very cool.
Also I'm pretty sure god and allah are both Marvel characters so comics win.
Nothing is wrong with them. It's a response to my comment. We engaged in some derisive snark at the expense of hypocritical right wingers. Plain and simple.
The only comment I saw was hers. Not the thread that would show context. But after the sexist speech by Butler, I’d never consider him greater than Kap at anything.
Thomas Jefferson rolling over in his grave - state university has a bunch of state-paid-for athletes proselytizing religion during state-paid-for activities
God's top priority is football, then other sports. Eventually he gets around to healing or souls.
But first he helps people get TDs & HRs. That takes a lot of effort.
damn I mean I'm all for harsh criticism of christianity, but these comments are about as r/atheism as u can get before u form a cringe singularity and become enlightened by your own intelligence
Players - like anyone - are free to express their faith. But so closely identifying one faith with the team and a university strikes me as a really bad idea. You?
I reason, based on observed chemistry and biology, that if abiogenesis is possible on Earth then it is equally possible in many other places - that it would be vanishingly unlikely for life *not* to be common across our galaxy.
I'm generally not against puff pieces, but would you cover this story the same way if they were converting players to Islam? I suspect the tone would be very, very different.
Yep I know. I'm agnostic but I don't give a shit what people believe as long as those beliefs don't lead to harm to others. But with Christian nationalism on the rise and ever-present Islamophobia it's impossible to square this story with objective journalism.
"You know, there are times where people don't want to hear about Him. But, you know, God calls us to hear His word whether the time is favorable or whether it's not," Henderson said.
Trying to shove your faith down other people's throats is horrifying.
The fact that these folks think their god cares about football while ignoring the kids in cancer wards or war zones highlights everything wrong about American Christianity.
What the hell, man? Just because they call themselves "Christians" doesn't mean they're gonna support all that woke commie hippie shit that Christ taught his followers.
Let me get his straight, when Colin Kaepernick took a knee it was an outrage. Indoctrinating, teammates, and students into your cult is seen as something to be celebrated?
I think college and university students should go to class, then go to practice in the afternoon, and then study in the evening. Games on the weekends if they maintain eligibility.
I guess you can tell who attended a Division III small school.
"Not only...but also" is a parallel structure suggesting similarity. I fail to see how being "gridiron" stars (a noteworthy accomplishment, ostensibly) is like being evangelists. Do better, @npr.
Because, while their god is far too impotent to stop the suffering of its own creation it must have predicted in its magnificent omniscience, it might be a football fan that rigs games because it literally has nothing more important to worry about. Thoughts and prayers.
If it’s done in their free time and not as part of school services then it’s fine. Otherwise it’s coercive and u fair to students of other or no religions.
NPR journalists are not only stars on the radio, some are also pivoting to keep their jobs under the incoming evangelist administration that has promised to defund public radio
The vast majority of NPR funding comes from listeners like you. Cutting funding to the Cooperation for Public Broadcasting won’t have much impact on NPR’s budget, or the federal deficit, for that matter.
Jesus taught to pray in secret, right there in the Sermon on the Mount when he taught the Lord's Prayer. #Matt6 The established church and show-christians do not want this known, as they gain money and power from blasphemous acts like public prayer.
The Ohio State Athletic Department is a separate organization from the University and not bound with as many restrictions. There are also many other faith based organizations on campus that are allowed to share their messages in University approved areas.
I don't understand the cause for disappointment. The Ohio State University has an obligation to protect and encourage the expression of ideas and beliefs across the social, economic, political, technical, and religious spectrums.
Dialogue and discourse are essential to education and understanding.
Most insightful quote from this article: “So, why are athletes such successful evangelizers? [Paul] Putz [director, Faith and Sports Institute, Baylor], said there's a star power involved. American Christianity is, as Putz puts it, ‘attuned to charisma and celebrity.’”
“[Putz also] said when football becomes closely tied with the identity of a school like it is at Ohio State, and Christianity becomes aligned with the football team, it can create a sense that expressions of other faiths may not be welcome.” Like when it becomes aligned with national identity.
We can only assume these numnuts were hit so hard, so many times developing debilitating CTE injuries where they now see and hear South park Jesus in a mass hysteria event.
As Christian nationalism is looming over our civil rights and about to oppress everyone but the most privileged, this is a very tone deaf story. I say this as a Christian myself.

✅️ Harrison Butker.
Sigh
But first he helps people get TDs & HRs. That takes a lot of effort.
13-10 〽️
and they're also religious nutballs,
hooray!" 🤡
"Religion" is a synonym for "belief in unsupportable nonsense".
I really don't care which flavor of nonsense you prefer; believing nonsense is bad for you regardless.

"Just wanna thank god for the win."
But never, "Just wanna thank god for the loss; god like them better."
Fair weather christians...
"Shall fight the evil Michigan Wolverines."
Michigan is their daddy

American Christianity is, as Putz puts it, "attuned to charisma and celebrity."
I would have thought it was supposed to be attuned to something else? I'm sure that's what I keep hearing them say?
I must be mistaken.
People who believe inImaginary friends splash water on others in fake ritual.
There I fixed your shitty headline.
Dialogue and discourse are essential to education and understanding.
Not from proselytizing individuals whose objective is to recruit into bigoted groups.
Let see if they act like children of God or act like a Republican
