27 religious groups are suing the federal government in response to the Trump administration's policy giving immigration agents more leeway to make arrests at "sensitive locations" like churches.

The photo in NPR's article is the exterior of St. Francis Xavier Church on 16th St. in Manhattan. It's an amazing Catholic community that lives the faith of its members through ministry to poor and immigrant persons. It's too bad that no Catholic churches or dioceses joined the subject lawsuit.
Just today the Pope called on Catholic bishops in the US to speak up in solidarity with migrants and refugees against narratives about migrants and refugees that cause discrimination and suffering. It'd be great if the USCCB or an archdiocese openly confronted the Trump administration about this.
There are tremendous opportunities for ecumenism and inter-religious collegiality among faith groups in opposing the administration's campaign against migrants. I wish the Catholic Church in the US would do better at engaging in them.
The replies to this thread make me realize that mainline progressive denominations need to do a much better job of letting people know that weβre actually here. These churches have been doing progressive justice work for ages.
The Trump administration's policy giving immigration agents more leeway to make arrests at "sensitive locations" like churches is result of Evangelical Christians & GOP conspiring to remove separation from church (right wing Evangelical) & state. Just like Russia's state religion of Russian Orthodox
losing my mind. not everyone knows about Mennonites and Brethren, but like. "Get ICE out of our places of worship" isn't a MAGA stance! I don't know why everyone is so confused.
I know one is not the Christian nationalist. The seed was planted as 2025 laid out when an office of religion was set up in White House 2- when he said he will inform his attorney general to prosecute anyone who does anything against Christianity. Another slap to the 1st amendment of Constitution
Never heard of this church. Definetly a major minority of the genre. I never said all btw, just large groups.
99.9%(Wikipedia only outside link) of all info online about this church is by...the church "ucc". That doesn't raise any eyebrows at all. Not recognized outside of ucc. π€ J/S
And the UCC is recognized by all mainline denominations. We have partnerships with the Disciples of Christ, ELCA Lutherans, United Methodists, and other denominations. And we share many similarities in viewpoints with them.
You speak to a point I made in another postβ¦the lack of awareness of these denominations shows a weakness in our ministry. The United Church of Christ has nearly a million members. All of us in the denom need be better at showing there are Christians standing against fascism and for human rights.
One of the first listed groups is reform Jews which are one of the most liberal and anti Trump demographics. I happen to know being one. And the Christian groups are mainline liberal Protestant. Not every religious group are southern Baptist convention members
Yet every religious group calls itself progressive to include Islam, and they are all stand against Abortion...all left wing talking points for sure! π Provide a link. How are you even sure NPR is reporting the truth? They have gaslighted us for a long minute now...wakeup!
Hilarious. Religion is suing the second coming. I will need popcorn and 3-d glasses. The only good thing about church is that it is supposed to protect, a sanctuary.
Hold GOP and MAGA accountable. Trump is killing people, destroying America's standing in the world!!! Besides this rush to install FASCISM, MAGA ignored what was killing families from COVID, and an armed assault to overthrow a Free and Fair Election! OTOH, Trump is KILLING PEOPLE!
I am so very tired of this child. Weβve experienced more bullshit in the past 3 weeks than we did during his four years. I feel certain there will be another insurrection, by citizens of all races and politics against him and his crew, and there will not be a damn thing he will be able to do.
When a government of the People, for the People, and by the People turns against the People, it's name is tyranny. We the People have a duty & an obligation to exercise our Rights & Liberty to overthrow those traitors, & abolish their tyranny by any means necessary. Revolution is the solution.

What is the purpose of deporting hard-working people who have been here for decades?
Because if you're the victim, then you're not the victimizer.
Because if you're the victim, then you're not the victimizer.
1) Yes, Christian churches are being harmed by this Admin's disregard for the separation of Church and State.
1a) But so are other non-Christian institutions, religious or not.
2) Yes, Christians are overwhelmingly the ones causing this harm.
I would have to refuse.
We will not comply.
Only they can touch their flock
Why do you think these silly ideas came to be in the first place?
