You don't need to be religious to create a meaningful connection to something greater than yourself. If you're interested in examining that relationship, grab a pen and paper and answer these prompts.

Since when is finding all that necessary? I disagree on meaning. There is endless meaning to be found in science. As for purpose, religion doesn't give you that either. It also fails on direction. Example Life Of Bryan, follow the shoe, no the gourd! If you can't provide those things for yourself,
you will never be able to get them from a higher power. Because physical reality and your mind are all there is. This message brought to you literally from the zen master's daughter. My dad would agree with me.
The only people talking about religion are those who hate religion. Good for them, I guess. But those who have actually read the article and thought about it know that it's not about religion at all.
I have all that without a higher power. Science is beautiful and a complex mystery that our minds can never understand. We were created out of stars and we are part of a greater whole. It is interconnected and dependent on the world around us
Purpose and qualia mostly, sure science is great and can describe anything about a colour for example but nothing other than seeing the color gives you the experience of it. Don't need a higher power for this either imo but science doesn't really do everything either
Where did I say it did? I swear there is this sexism on social media in which men say you said something you didn't then argue with that in this desperate effort to be right or above a woman.
I said science explains our world, and it does. God, does not. Do you disagree?
Next, I agree, there is nothing like human experiences and we learn a lot from them about each other ourselves and so much more. I agree. There is no need for God in that. Buddha, felt the same way. That our mind creates much from our experiences and all we can do is experience. The human condition.
My job is color, do you know how much the science is important to what color is and how people react to it, the science is elemental to how humans value it and have access to it. So I disagree with your example. Professionally.
And, change a few words, and your statement is a spiritual belief. 😉
"____ is beautiful and a complex mystery that our minds can never understand. We were created out of ____ and we are part of a greater whole. It is interconnected and dependent on the world around us."
Religion is a way of understanding the world, but is concerned very much with meaning and morality.
Science and religion are not opposites. I'm an engineer and I work with lots of technical people who rely on science. And a lot of them are also believers in various religions.
Science can exist within the prism of spirituality. As you have said, a beautiful and complex mystery; something that ties us to one another, the earth, and the solar system beyond us. I would argue this binding force that lovingly holds the pieces together is what we are trying to touch here
Actually it can't. Science is a measuring system that what is. What provides material for measurement. It posits a question does it's measuring & gets an answer.
Faith, starts with an answer then posits the question that matches the answer only accepting measurement that adds up to that answer.
You can not have science and faith on the same place. They are on no level the same nor are they equal. If you start with an answer, there is no science. If you start without one there is no faith. We must pick a lane.
Sometimes faith offers comfort. Then it fine to lean on it as a crutch.
I don't need a prism. You sound like you are saying that there needs to be a larger doctrine to govern something in order to for you to call it spirituality. On that I disagree.
I think those too are personal matters and it is heinous bad manners to push them at people. I would also point out for many values and faith are the same thing, which is why now in half of this once great nation, now headed by a nazi Twitter troll, I no longer have the right to control my own body.
Vogelzang's practices seem to roughly be the sati or mindfulness aspects of Buddhism. While Buddhism is not necessarily a religion per se (more of a worldview or philosophy, along with a set of practices), you don't have to be Buddhist or religious to be mindful, appreciative, kind or nature-loving.
Romans 1:20
"For from the creation of the world His invisible qualities, both His eternal power and divinity, are clearly seen, being understood by the things made".
Not bad advice, honestly. A bit mushy on the whole god/religion side, but it is important for beings to feel connected to and a part of something MORE.
Truly wild, reading the comments under this post... I had hoped this platform would draw people who weren't just scroll zombies with knee-jerk bad takes, but these responses are screaming scroll-induced ADD.
Spirituality is just a delusion. "Greater than yourself" is meaningless - existence has no purpose or meaning. We are born, we live, we die, and that's that.
Often religion taps into rigid performative aspects of human nature reinforcing divisions - and delusion - and keeps us from real and meaningful relationships (especially with ourselves).

What is proven by science?
Then the trick is to believe accordingly.
What more do you need?
Also I can touch and question it

"I dont need..." "..govern.."
I invite you to explore why you think of these terms and phrases, on the topic of spirituality.
I'll also mention, a prism is simply an expression, an image, a reflection
Lol.
Spot on. But since not everyone will do so this is at least advice in the right direction!
