Vice President JD Vance will travel to Greenland this week, including a stop at Pituffik Space Base, the U.S. Defense Department's northernmost installation and its only outpost on the island.

This headline reads like there should be *more* US bases, or at least that we should assume there are multiple US bases in every non-hostile country. It’s a flashing red sign of imperialism that we take for granted.
I fear this administration will stage an assassination attempt on (either) Vance, blame Greenland, and use it as an excuse to send in troops to take them over.
Would not be surprised at all if Greenland informed JD that they need to pack up that base and go in 30 days. I wouldn't blame any country at this point to kick us out.
"The Greenlanders, who were all so hostile that security would not let me meet any of them, are completely in favor of being taken over by the USA, which has always done such a great job with indigenous peoples." Junior Dictator Vance next week
I’m not a fan of mother-in-law jokes (you know, show up unexpectedly, make demands, pretend the house is theirs, sometimes move in uninvited), but yeah this is one of those.
As I understand it - the base is his one and only stop. Headline makes it sounds like he is doing a tour which already got cancelled when folks I. Greenland got bigly mad. His kids must be gutted after all the homework and video recording they had been doing with Mum.
The visit to the base is for the sole purpose of justifying the trip. Would be fun if they detained Vance and his bride for some reason -- missing paperwork, wrong stamp on some document.
I think they should get there and have just started some plumbing work around the outside of the building…. Maybe a moat. Lots of mud, no way of getting in sorry come back next week….

https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/your-air-force/2018/01/23/50-years-ago-a-b-52-crashed-in-greenland-with-4-nuclear-bombs-on-board/ Most every piece of the plane was accounted for except the nuclear fuel components of one of the bombs. It was not found on the ice and a sweep of the seafloor with a minisub also found nothing. Its current location remains a mystery.
President Trump has declared war on Denmark, so Denmark should not allow U.S. officials into the country.
🙂
It's his ONLY stop
How convenient.
