I was giving NPR the benefit of the doubt but no this clearly reads like a movie description with only a slight mention of the fabulously wonderful exceptionally well spoken Senator Booker. Shame on NPR this article was a disservice to the history making filibuster.
@npr.org You should lead with real people - this dilutes Mr. Booker's accomplishment. Sound byte headline panders to reality TV-vibes - which only makes me wonder, to what purpose are you hoping to accomplish specifically? Celebrate the people who are trying to do the right things.
One of Stewart's greatest roles. I suspect Jimmy Stewart was a Republican. I think he'd roll over in his grave if he knew what was happening these days.
I just watched this movie, again a few weeks ago. I wrote on several apps that we need a Mr. Smith goes to Washington moment with the Democrats and look what happened.
Why do so many people think this guy went 25 hours without food, sleep, or even the ability to sit down, just for shits and giggles? Is it possible he was really trying to make a point that mattered to him? And to many Americans?
I don't think it was shits and giggles. I think it was two-fold. To raise his profile and, secondarily, to feed the feelings of those who care more about that than anything.
He'll raise money off this, do the talk show circuit and play hero even though nothing was accomplished. Just my opinion.
Jesus Christ, you’ve got Democrats like AOC and you’ve got Bernie Sanders and a couple others out there and everyone screaming “where are the other Democrats?!” and then Booker does this and gets shit on by people like you for it. I don’t really think you want the Democrats to try at all.
It's done SO much more harm than good.
He's a wildly unsuccessful Senator as far as really getting things done. He's a committee guy. Screams about the problems but that's it. Sells magic wands to the emotional.
I'm on board with a lot of what he screams about. But I prefer reality and ACTION.
Not shit on. I'm realistic. I dig facts and truth. I leave feelings to others.
But do this. Check out the legislation sponsored and implemented by either Sanders or AOC. That might open your eyes a bit. Sanders in particular. One of the worst-performing Senators in recent history.
Talk is cheap.
I like how you say, “I dig facts and truth” and then make a list of a man’s personal motivations and express them as fact rather than just a cynical take.
Tring to negate the historical importance of Senator Booker's achievement by comparing it to a fictional character? @npr.org I'm questioning the content of your character now.
Sen. Booker stomped on Thurmond’s rancid filibuster “record” reading an encyclopedia by reciting ALL the Trump corruption and this is how @NPR decides to respond?
Guess you’re kissing the ring as opposed to calling truth to power
You want to take a real accomplishment of an African American man and talk about a fake movie accomplishment by a white actor.
Seriously rethinking my membership right now.
Great movie. I just watched it a few weeks ago. I first watched it in when I was a child, and it might. Be the first time I learned about filibustering.

Different person each week topping the one before
That would be interesting j/s IMO

Just recognize that we UNSUBSCRIBED and blocked all those other news channels for doing this, don't give us a reason to block you too!

Sad times…
