It's a very simple calculation to explain. Would you rather have 10% more clock speed in certain boost situations, or three times as much usable ram. (16-8 vs 32 - 8)

Example: All 9 of these are effectively the same two chips, one with 12MB cache and one with 8MB. Just buy the cheap one in most cases, or the cheapest i7 for the power users.

We just got new laptops. Managed to hang on to my old desktop. Not as good as the home PC but can't do my secure work on that.

Laptop has a new i7 and 32GB RAM. Fine for most but a little low for engineering activities. Old work pc has 64GB and home PC has 128GB.

New laptop overheats like mad too

And if they let you, Ryzen usually has better battery life than both, with better performance.

Though Intel Virtualization tech is usually a hard requirement for some businesses, and you can't avoid it.
