I have tried to like the game but after about 20 hours into it I’m just bored. At least this far into the game there is really no connections with the characters. Origins was a masterpiece. I appreciate how hard it is to recreate that magic. But, I am having a hard time continuing to play.
Honestly to each their own and you do what you like, but imo it does definitely start out slow and takes a while to pick up but the final act was fantastic and I liked it
To clarify I loved it!! It honestly felt closer to Origins for me in the way it’s built up in parts and there’s a lot more focus on a good villain and story to tell. I’ve missed that Origins magic
As someone who's only played Origins (3x) and Veilguard (1.5x) so far, they're stunningly similar tone/plot games with less slurs for elves.
Love a genre subversion but I'm not sure that in our current political climate I needed elves to be called fantasy slurs, so I think this was a good call.
The other two I didn't play because of life circumstances. I bought them on deep sale before this came out and expect to play them! I was, centrally, a KotR guy in that era but DAO's goofy Bioware energy + queer romance!! + dark story with good bosses was very welcome.
The first act is incredibly slow but I think that’s why it loses people, however I personally really liked what happens in the later acts. I also think each companion main quests was beautifully done and all your efforts to restore the world throughout the game actually have value in the ending
It actually reminded me of Dragon Age 2 (which was my favorite) where the companions are all tied to the story in some way, all the extra quests as well and the tension builds up. All of that with more variety and stunning environments and great set pieces 😁
I felt the same i had so many moments were i was reminded of Origins especially the last section of the game and i loved to finally see the grey wardens more
I felt like that final stretch does a really good job getting emotions going, especially if you loved the other games. The secrets you learn, the choices having consequences, the wrap up of a fairly good story. Plus, however you choose to work things out with Solas.
I definitely think knowing Solas and Varric helps a lot in cementing the emotions, but tbh I like that this game’s structure feels a little different and could have worked on its own too. It feels less open world and I’m into that
was it the ending with the essence? It's so good, honestly I think the best ending regardless if you like Solas. I actually hated him before but that end just works so well for the overarching story and makes me appreciate his character more than I had. Definitely one of the crying points for me!
I like Solas, but this game definitely made me love him. Even through his trickster parts I felt that made him much more three dimensional (plus I really like Norse mythology Loki).
And yes that ending made me tear up, he was so vulnerable and relatable
Yes! I moved past my previous opinion of him as he has become such a well developed character that it's hard not to appreciate him. Tricksters are compelling in fragments (also a myth Loki appreciator), but he feels like a fully realized person between his writing/portrayal in both games now
