i hurt my lower back a few years ago.. my PT had me do a couple things to help strengthen it but the most important thing they gave me was a warm up routine I can do as i go out to my starting hole.
Its essentially lunges with a twist. So step out with left foot, twist shoulders to left, alternate.

You can do it while walking out to your hole, or when you get there you can do stand still versions of them. It really helps loosen and prep your back.
