religious dogma is an educational scourge. AND we have enough sharp people from the US to do the increasingly trivial work of big tech. but it’s a lot easier to underpay and control people who are dependent on their employer to stay in the country. AND the US is better for having tons of H1Bs.

that’s a lot to put in one post. i live in the heart of silicon valley. it’s way more complicated than most people here even realize. my neighborhood is deeply conservative, and primarily recent immigrants from india and china. they almost exclusively can’t vote.

it’s not always easy being surrounded by distinctly different sensibilities and languages, but it’s definitely better on a generational scale for the US, for CA, and for my family. it’s a lot harder for people on H1Bs.

i have a friend from india in his early 30s. he will likely never be a citizen. he can’t go back to india because he’s americanized. he can’t change jobs until he’s had the one long enough, and the new one had to sponsor his H1B. it takes a decade+ to get a green card.

i can change jobs whenever i want. i can go where i please. i left the employer where we met. he’s still stuck there because of his visa. you can see why an apartheid guy like musk would be extremely in favor of H1Bs for nefarious purposes.
