As someone who lives in relatively safe Commiefornia, I would not, personally, at least in a way that involves making plans in the long term. Once the economic consequences of Musk and Trump crash into the huge portion of the population uninterested in the news, it could get bad.
Yeah, I was hoping to travel there...mostly to visit friends and stuff, and driving, so I'd be relatively out of broader "sight" but, bleh just that sense of tension.
I... I hate to say it but I don't think we should even consider travelling to the states right now. It's not only unsafe, but it's a country that is actively threatening our sovereignty. I'm no "Muricans BAD" guy, my wife is American and lives there. But rn it's just not safe.
I want so badly to go to Michigan and be with my wife, but for the next four years (...gods, or more, i'm so scared) me going down there could get me thrown in a concentration camp or a work camp for 'diseased' people (ADHD and depression...)
As someone who is actively trying to get out.. don’t risk it. While you will most likely find like minded individuals at the events, the chance of something bad happening at any moment is much too high. Stay safe, avoid the US. 😰
For us (living in South Florida) the travel problems are a key issue.
We are in a bright blue dot so locally is good but 600%+ rise in airline accidents should put a pause in anyone's thoughts
As an American... it's brutal to hear about. This country is just not in a good state.
TBF, most conventions are very liberal leaning, so you'll likely be among friends and like-minded people there. ❤️ Whatever you decide to do, stay safe.
Everyone else has already said it but yeah, would not travel here right now.
Everytime Canada does something to hurt U.S. govt right now I'm practically flying out of my seat cheering you guys.
This keeps up I'll probably be joining ya'll up there.
I'd say more liberal big cities are safer right now, but at least at most conventions you'll be among mostly a bunch of like-minded liberal people no matter what. But yeah. Who the cuss knows what's going to happen from day to day. I'm sorry about our trash fire. 🦅
Nothing to be sorry for, I try to focus on all the good people and efforts going on. The conventions would be amazing no doubt, it's just.... Yeah. A constant source of anxiety.
As someone living in the US I don't blame you, I'm scared to leave my home most days (I live in FL) but even so I still think cons are one of the safer places to be right now cause you're surrounded by queer people. That's just how I see it anyway, a chance to be around people who understand
I absolutely do not blame you for being cautious at all. I definitely agree that right now probably just isn't a good time, but that can always change later.
Visit smaller conventions if the big ones scare you. I’ve never been to a convention myself so I can’t speak to it, but I do private security for a variety of places in one of the big 5 metropolitan areas.
I see everyone complain online but in person I don’t see much bad. Not to say I see none tho
I was not speaking about it as if it were a convention problem. Which I think my talk of experience in the security sector and lack of convention attendance would have conveyed that.
Apologies if I did not eloquate that well enough, limited word counts make it difficult. My previous points stand.
Possibly. I assumed fears were more along the lines of being afraid that conservatives would act out, and not governmental policies. Which smaller conventions and security would safeguard a person from.
In terms of governmental regulation, suffice it to say I have no advice. Thats a wicked problem
in seriousness -- it depends where you are traveling through + if you are pregnant, anything other than cis-het, or have ever changed your gender markers on your passports; don't risk it.
'blue states' you'd think would be safer? but ICE *started* their raids in Chicago.

Glad I put this out there, the responses reflect how I feel, making me feel not-crazy.

That’s not a self input though, i work for a company and we do contracts with business or devolpment, not individual persons.
Not to say thats the best financially responsible choice, but it is a choice.
