...I should probably clarify here that the scope would be mostly ancient authors, maybe a bit of medieval authors and I'd mostly want to avoid pure philosophy, simply because that's not my bailiwick.

It might also be interesting to do "how to write a Roman book" in the vein of the farming and iron series, going from papyrus and parchment production through ink and the number of scrolls needed for various works on to how books were acquired by interested readers.
For the pure philosophy, can I recommend @histphilosophy.bsky.social, the History of Philosophy podcast, and the related books? He moves fast, and it's not in depth, but he covers a lot of ground, and the connections are the important part, to my mind.
Well, and the complexity of not really knowing how sincere Machiavelli is with his advice - is his point that the ideal prince is, in fact, an amoral monster and thus *having a prince* (as opposed to a republic) is bad in and of itself?
Also, there's already a really good series on Machiavelli by historian of Florence @adapalmer.bsky.social, of which this is the final post (and links to all the others).
This feels like the sequel to "The Bright Ages" (which YOU recommended to folks on Pre-Elon Twitter) by @profgabriele.com and @lollardfish.bsky.social we've been waiting for.
