It not got any selvage markings but it was in the quilting stash I bought. might be linen if it’s not cotton and you can see from the image how see-thru it is. It is a lovely lavender that matches but I’d have to get creative about piecing it. - ThreadSky

It’s for a donation project so it would probably be safer to use something known. But it would also be nice to not have to buy something

I have used some lighter batik fabrics that were about that see through. I just make sure to use the white batting instead of the natural so they don't have that dirty look from the yellowness of the batting showing through.

Ugh, good point. I’d have to buy batting. I’ve got a giant roll of natural which usually isn’t an issue with the colors I use.

I had the bad luck to have about 3 quilts in a row where the batting color showed through some of the fabrics. Now I buy white batting all the time just in case (but I don't have a big roll).

Have you washed it to see what it does? It strikes me as fine handkerchief material but if it holds up...?

Haven’t washed it although that’s not a bad idea.

If I could tell if it was linen I’d be less worried since that usually holds up decently.

Yeah it’s a beautiful fabric! I’m just afraid to give something experimental to a kid who’s already been through the wringer. Maybe I’ll just use it to make shirts and buy a backing

I second the "wash it to see how it behaves" suggestion and I would absolutely use it if it holds up. I love the variation in the weave.

You could make a trial quilt: top and batting and backing and then wash it

I'd be afraid it would wear out too quickly, as thin as it is. Unless it's for a table topper or wall hanging that won't take much abuse.

Yeah, also a concern. And it’s supposed to be for a teen and would hopefully see years of use.
