Maybe. A lot has happened in 80 years. But we (Europe) are surely to blame as well. It became clear in 2016 that NATO is not a given thing anymore. And in 2022 we again assumed that USA will take care of everything. If RU invasion wasn't a wake up call I don't know what more of a push we need...
