I wish I knew about things like this when I was younger. Quick question how do you feel about trump wanting to abolish protections for employees from being discriminated against how could that affect your job ?

Well luckily I'm a freelancer so it won't affect me directly but there's definitely going to be a loooooot more anti DEI rhetoric that I'll have to keep fighting against. I think it will also make my job harder in general. Abolishing protections for employees is a terrible idea in general.

If you're sincerely asking, a sensitivity reader and/or cultural consultant is an assistant to the research you do about topics you don't know about to help create a more authentic and immersive experience in your games :)

Apologies for the caution, I've had some folks ask me with the intent of attacking me. I do indeed specifically do that for games, but also novels, scripts, podcasts, you name it! If you're looking for a cultural expert or someone to ask questions to, I can help!

A lot of people don't like the idea of what I do, and especially not in video games as they believe I "force" diversity into their games, which isn't my purpose at all.

At least you could take inspiration from it! If I could just put this on your radar, I have celiac disease and any media that refers to someone unable to eat gluten it's always punching down and making jokes at our expense. :( Do you think positive representation would be possible?

Oh gosh, I'm sorry to hear that! Feel free to send examples, that's always super helpful to help me build my case to clients. But yeah, absolutely, I think comments of that sort in media can be pointed out to creators and adjusted to either punch up or be reworked :)

Thank you! We're mostly under the radar but some larger examples are a super bowl commercial poking fun at us (was big enough to get noticed and handled) and there was an episode of Supernatural that made light of it, I'll have to dig and see which one it was

I haven't yet had a project where I worked on localization, but I really do think a sensitivity reader would be an ideal complement to localization! Especially in bridging the gap in cultures when it comes to translating things over in ways that are accurate and land accurately. :)
